November 30 is the last day for alumni to participate in the Alumni Challenge to raise money for the new Educational Foundation.

All graduates are asked to represent their class by contributing a donation in the amount of their graduation year (1984 – $19.84) Additional donations are also welcome as each class that contributes a total of  $1,000 will be honored as a  Founding Donor.

The non-profit Angleton Educational Foundation provides grants for teachers to provide educational experiences for their students that are not in their regular classroom budgets.  In a whirlwind tour of eight campuses, board members presented $53,117  in their first round of grants on November 17.  The 23 projects funded included rockets and clinometers for a trig class, a field trip, flexible seating for elementary classrooms, early literacy books, and many enhanced curriculum kits.

In support of the national Giving Tuesday initiative, the Alumni Association hosted a food drive in November to support Grandparents as Parents (GAP).  GAP members take in young relatives needing homes despite facing financial hardships and they find emotional support and resources through the local organization.

Donations of non-perishable items have been taken all month and will continue at the History Center from 1 p.m. to 4  p.m. on Giving Tuesday on November 29.

The Alumni Association will host Handbags and Gladrags (a ladies’ luncheon/purse auction) at The Pavilion on Saturday, March 25.   Nancy Gayle will be the guest speaker.  Designer purses, novelty purses and vintage purses will be in a silent auction – with proceeds earmarked for the Alumni Association scholarship fund.

The History Center is setting up a vintage Christmas tree decorated with Christmas cards from throughout the decades.  To be a part of it, send cards to the Alumni Association at PO Box 122, Angleton, 77516.

To add to a military display, the History Center is compiling lists of former Angleton students who served during World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and the Gulf/Iraq/Afghanistan wars.  Send information to  Murphy Rankin ’67 at
