GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVE
The third annual School Supply Drive hosted by the Alumni Association will be Wednesday, August 12.  Supplies can be delivered to the History Center during normal business hours from noon to 5 p.m.  any Wednesday plus a drop-off station will be set up in the circular drive off Downing Street by the History Center from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on August 12. Mail-in donations can be sent to the Alumni Association and will be used to purchase supplies.   All supplies go to needy students in AISD schools.  Debra Morris ’72 is chairing the project.

SCHOLARSHIP DONATIONS
Funds have been donated for the Alumni Association to create a Thurman Green ’40 Memorial Scholarship in 2016.
Alumni who would like to contribute to the alumni or the Green memorial scholarship fund may do so by sending a check to the Angleton Alumni Association, PO Box 122, Angleton 77516.
Seniors Garrett Hummel, Abby Rankin and Lance McCoy were the recipients of Angleton Alumni Association scholarships in 2015. Garrett and Abby will attend Texas A&M and Lance will attend Prairie View A&M.

ALL CLASS REUNION
Input is being taken on a fall reunion for all alumni that will feature garage bands from different decades. Please contact Sammy Alsobrook ’69 at safetysam1csp@yahoo.com with suggestions.

CLASS REUNIONS
1970:  The Class of 1970 will have their 45th reunion  from 5:30- 10 p.m. on August 8 at the American Legion Hall. Cost is $30 per person.   Contact: Danna K. Wilson, library _quilter@hotmail.com or phone 979-849-5329 or 412-818-7746 cell.
1965:  The Class of 1965 will meet at the SFA Statue to celebrate their 50th anniversary on Friday, September 25, before attending the Old Timers reunion on Saturday, September 26.  Send email information to Phyllis Davlin Gerdes ’65 at phyllisgerdes@rocketmail.com.
1938 – 1965: The Alumni Association will honor all former FFA and FHA members at the annual Good Old Timers reunion on September 26.  Please contact the Alumni Association if you have FFA or FHA memorabilia or photos to display.  Registration forms will be mailed or emailed in August.

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION MEMBERSHIPS

YEA! I DON’T HAVE TO GO TO SCHOOL TODAY!
All retired teachers and former AISD employees are invited to celebrate the first day of school with food and fun (no program, no lesson plans)  from 11 to 1 p.m. at the History Center on Monday, August 24.

HALL OF FAME
Stories and photos of 2015 Distinguished Alumni recipients Olivia Trevino ’58, Renard Thomas ’72 and Greg Bonnen ’84 are now on display at the History Center. Trevino spent 10 years working full time and earning her degree from St. Thomas University; Dr. Thomas’ latest patent involves bioindicators for transplant rejection; Dr. Bonnen says he keeps the 7th grade history notebook he did for Mrs. Muldrow on display in his state representative office in Austin.

HISTORY CENTER NEWS
Recent donations include framed photos of the 40s and 50s from Waldene Hunt Shuman ’56, a paper cutter from Shirley Phillips and funds from the Class of 1980.
The History Center is open every Wednesday afternoon from noon until 5 p.m., during class reunions, for special events and by request by calling Linda Winder at 979-864-6650 or the History Center at  979-864-8015.
Photos of History Center visitors and donations can be seen on the Angleton School History Center on Facebook – which just reached a milestone of 1,000 likes.
