2020 Scholarship Awards

Karissa Blau

CLASS OF 1967 SCHOLARSHIP
Karissa Blau will use her Class of 1967 scholarship to major in kinesiology/dance at Texas A&M with plans to become a physical therapist. Enrolled in dance for 16 years, she was also a Color Guard captain, member of the LEO Club, and No. 10 in her class of 440. Class of 1967 reps presenting her scholarship were Larry DuBose, Martha Samford, Cheryl Macon Jez, Julie Irby Kolojaco, Murphy Rankin and John Morgan.

Edgar Delacruz

PROJECT GRADUATION SCHOLARSHIP

Edgar Delacruz, shown with Alumni Association board member Katie Clegg, received the Project Graduation 2019 scholarship. Active in band, tennis and welding, he also volunteered for Project Grad activities. He will attend Brazosport College to get a degree in welding technology.

Mykah Frost

O.V. McDANIEL SCHOLARSHIP
Mykah Frost
is the 40th recipient of the scholarship created for former AISD administrator O.V. McDaniel when he retired. Mykah was an honor graduate, a yearbook section editor, played varsity golf, and was active in HOSA and the LEO Club. She plans to major in speech therapy/deaf education at Stephen F. Austin. She is shown with her mom Heather Brewer, Jim McDaniel and wife Pam and Ryan Brewer.

Kody King

ANGLETON ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP
Kody King, shown with parents Dustin and Kimberly King, is the recipient of an Angleton Alumni Association scholarship where funds were raised at the annual Handbags and Gladrags luncheon. Kody made top grades while graduating in three years. He was active in band and played golf and competed in welding. He has been accepted at Texas A&M and plans to become a dentist.

Reece Matt

TONY HERFORD SCHOLARSHIP
Reece Matt received the Tony Herford Memorial Scholarship. Herford operated Tony’s Barber Shop in Angleton for decades and was active with the Masonic Lodge. His daughter Shelly Deisher and her husband presented the scholarship to Reece. Ranked No. 26 in her class, Reece was active in band and the National Honor Society. She will study Investigative Services at A&M and wants to someday work in the anti-terrorism field.

Carisa McCabe

ANGLETON ALUMNI ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP
Carisa McCabe received the Angleton Alumni Association Scholarship presented in memory of former teacher Ray Pearl Condry. Carisa, who was an honor graduate and captain of the varsity cheerleaders, will major in business marketing at Texas Tech. Mrs. Condry taught 28 years in AISD, mainly at Southside, and, always active, was volunteering at the History Center in her 90s. She died in November, a month before her 100th birthday. Her daughter, Betty Condry McAfee ’69, drove down to present the scholarship.

Ethan Olivier

CHAMBERLAIN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIPS
AHS 2020 grad Ethan Olivier received the Chamberlain Family Scholarship through the Angleton Alumni Association program. Sam Chamberlain ’66 and his son Michael Chamberlain presented the award at an outdoor ceremony June 14. Ethan, a top graduate who played varsity football and runs the IT department at Triumph Church, will study computer engineering at the University of Houston.

Alyssa Salazar

MARVIN AND BETTYE JACOBSON SCHOLARSHIP
Alyssa Salazar received the Marvin and Bettye Jacobson Memorial scholarship. The Jacobsons both graduated from AHS as did their three children (Eddie, Katie, Mary) who fund the scholarship. Alyssa was active in band, journalism and the National Honor Society (17th in her class of 440) and will study education at Texas State. She would like to be a school psychologist in the future. Carolynn Stallman

CLASS OF 1967 SCHOLARSHIP
Carolynn Stallman with her mom and members of the Class of 1967 at the Angleton Alumni Association scholarship presentations. She will major in Health Sciences at Texas A&M and plans to be a pediatric physician assistant. Carolynn was very active in school – Top 10% of her class, president of the Be Kind Club, secretary for honor society, senior class officer, basketball team captain, Health Occupations, named Miss Congeniality at the Brazoria County Fair Queen competition.

Ashley Stoddard

CLASS OF 1969 SCHOLARSHIP
Ashley Stoddard was presented a Class of 1969 scholarship from class reps Katie Jacobson Clegg ’69 and Betty Condry McAfee ’69. Very active in agriculture, Ashley was president of FFA and 4-H and has exhibited show animals across the state in addition to participating in youth rodeos. She was on the AHS livestock judging team that placed third in nationals and will join the agriculture program at South Plains College in Levelland. She then plans to transfer to A&M or Texas Tech and finish her degree in agriculture marketing.
